01/09: Concave Urbanism

This past fall’s semester culminated in the design of an armature, covering anywhere from a neighborhood to many square miles. I focused on a small quarry right on the border between Belen, a neighborhood in Medellin, and Altavista.

The site is located directly adjacent to an Adventist University, a seminary, and middle class apartments. My proposal focused on the valley left behind by the mining site, with plazas, fields and public buildings forming a public gathering space large enough to serve both future inhabitants and current neighbors. Self-constructed homes are intended to be built up around these public areas, serving as the eyes keeping a lookout over communal areas.
