A happy birthday to my sister Sara, an aspiring doctor (i.e. med student) up in Boston who might just win the Boston Marathon this year if she feels like it’s worth her time. Today four years ago I gave her a promotional flyer for her birthday, one intended to get people to donate in her name to 4k For Cancer, a program with which she biked 4000 miles from Baltimore to San Francisco.
And she did it! She raised $4500 (it’s best not to ask how she raised every dollar, I don’t think she saw a cent from my fundraising efforts), and biked her ass off across the country, making friends and leaving tread marks, and a bit of her tooth in Colorado, on roads through middle America.
A very special birthday to you, Sara, and another thank you for what you accomplished four years ago and for everything you’ve given to the people in your life.
