This afternoon my professional practice class, focusing on everything from self promotion (resume, portfolio) to project structures (design, bid, build versus integrated project delivery), met with a few responsible for the day to day execution and management of constructing the Barnes Foundation, including superintendent and project manager from the construction company (LF Driscoll) and the project architect from the lead architecture firm (TWBTA).
The discussion focused mainly on the relationship between architect and contractor throughout the design, bid negotiation and construction phases. We got a chance to hear about the strategy and work that goes into a general contractor’s bid and search for subcontractors. [author’s note- I’ve been to the Barnes twice now without seeing the art gallery. It is on my list.]
