04/08: South Street Bridge to Jersey

A year ago I took a very interesting class called Case Studies in Contemporary Urbanism, Landscape Architecture and Design, taught by Jonathan Barnett, David Gouverneur and Aron Cohen. As part of the class students broke off into interdisciplinary teams (the class was a good mix of architects, landscape architects and urban planning students) to complete quick one week assignments. One week we were asked to reconsider the South Street pedestrian bridge over I-95.

This project was completed by Rebecca Fischman, Tadashi Kikuno, Hang Su and myself. Our approach took the 100 year flood line as a the sea level for 2053, and proposed housing in what is currently part of the interstate. A two lane bridge would connect South Street in Philadelphia and Camden, NJ. The street would double as a linear market.
